Viscosupplementation Injections

Viscosupplementation Injections

This is a synthetic joint fluid that is used to treat knee arthritis. Colloquially, these injections are sometimes known as "gel shots," "chicken shots," or "rooster shots" because of the product's origin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring acid that is located in your joints. This substance helps absorb motions, like running, walking, sprinting, jumping etc. Patients with arthritis in the knee, for example, have a very low level of Hyaluronic acid, increasing the pain and the likelihood of joint, bone and cartilage damage. Viscosupplementation injections are intended to help return some of the mobility and function to the affected joints.
